More GP Education Nights

Sydney Sleep Centre has undertaken several more GP Education nights in 2015

JUNE

In conjunction with Boehringer Ingelheim, Dr Desai discussed new respiratory inhaler therapy with GP's in Maroubra. The lecture, "Clearing the Air" was well received and educational for all.

SEPTEMBER

In conjunction with Mundipharma, Dr Desai discussed advances in Asthma management and in particular drug delivery to the lungs using fine particles. This meeting in Coogee was attended by over 30 GP's

OCTOBER

Sydney Sleep Centre and Astra Zeneca hosted a successful meeting in Lilyfield on both the Management of Sleep Disorders in General Practice and COPD, a common lung condition. The multi-disciplinary nature and expertise of Sydney Sleep Centre was discussed amongst the 30 or so GP delegates that attended on the night.

More GP Education Nights

Following the successful GP and Dentist dinners over February to April 2015, Sydney Sleep Centre has several more GP Education nights planned.

MAY

The first event, on 16/05/2015, will be held at The Hilton Hotel in Sydney. Dr Anup Desai (Sleep and Respiratory Physician) will present to a large group of GP's on insomnia, as part of The Australian Doctor Mental Health 2015 Seminar. This is part of an Educational symposium for invited GP's, accredited by the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) as an MHST Primary Care activity. By attending this session, GP's will be able to:

• Recognise insomnia in a patient based on DSM-V criteria

• Describe lifestyle factors  and co-morbidities that can increase risk of insomnia

• Develop a care plan for insomnia with a patient, taking into account risk of dependence with pharmacologic agents and other safety considerations

The second event on 20/05/2015 at St Lukes Hospital in Potts Point will be part of a Local Division GP workshop, where Dr Anup Desai, in conjuction with other local Specialists will present a 15 minute workshop topic to rotating small groups of GPs. Dr Desai will present on practical aspects of The Sleep Study report.

JUNE

On 03/06/2015, in conjuction with the Prince of Wales Private Hospital and other local Specialists, Dr Anup Desai will be presenting an update on Restless Legs Syndrome to local GP's. This is part of the continuing education at Prince of Wales Private Hospital.

Even number two for June is at The Cookhouse Restaurant in Randwick on 16/06/2015. Dr Anup Desai will give an update on COPD management to invited GP's.

The final event for June, 20/06/15, is part of a Saturday workshop for GP's on Respiratory and Endocrine Health. Dr Anup Desai will present on the managment of airways disease to local GP's.

Sleep Centres of Australia links overseas

Invited Lecture in Beijing, China

Sleep Centres of Australia was invited by De Rucci to lecture to Chinese business people on Sleep Disorders and how they impact on their employees and clients.

Dr Desai presented in Beijing, China on 18 March 2015. He was the only international speaker invited to attend a National Sleep Symposium where the 2015 Chinese Healthy Sleep report was unveiled and discussed. Representatives from the Chinese Sleep Association, De Rucci and prominant Chinese business leaders were present.

Sleep Centres of Australia was honoured to be involved in such an important Chinese sleep initiative, and the meeting provided valuable overseas contacts and knowledge for Sleep Centres of Australia.

GP & Dental Education Nights

Sydney Sleep Centre has arranged and is hosting key Medical Education events in 2015.

MARCH

The first event, in conjunction with GSK, is an educational dinner for GP's, where Dr Anup Desai (Sleep and Respiratory Physician) and Dr Chaminda Lewis (Sleep and Respiratory Physician) will be presenting. Dr Desai will present "What's new in asthma management ?" and Dr Lewis will present "Common Clinical Sleep Disorders". The educational dinner will be held at Centennial Parklands Restaurant on 03/03/2015.

The second event, in conjuction with the Eastern Suburbs Division of General Practice, will be on the 12/03/2015 at the Eastern Division's regional Office. Dr Anup Desai (Sleep and Respiratory Physician) and Rosemary Clancy (Sleep Centre Clinical Psychologist) will speak at this event, a GP and Allied Health education night. Dr Desai will present on the "Management of Sleep Disorders in General Practice", and Rosemary Clancy will present on "Insomnia" , focusing on case based discussion.

APRIL

The third event, a Dentist education night, is on April 28, 2015. This event will be in conjunction with Somonmed. Dr Anup Desai (Sleep and Respiratory Physician) will provide an Update on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Management to Dentists and discuss how Dentists can integrate Sleep Medicine in their clinical practice. Interested dentists will tour Sydney Sleep Centre to see the range of fascilities available to assist them to manage their patients.
